After our show season officially ended with the Rotorua Champs show, we put on a different hat and played demo rider and RDA pony at the Halberg Junior Disability Games at St Peter's, Cambridge.
Para Equestrian was asked to look after the horseriding side of the games, so 4 of us current para riders loaded up our competition horses and headed to Cambridge. None of us were 100% sure how our horses would cope with many different riders on them all afternoon, being led through "obstacle course races" with the kids on board, but we put our faith in them and they didn't let us down!
We also had awesome support from Cambridge RDA who brought over two of their ponies to help, and we had an army of volunteers turn up to help mount the riders, lead the horses and sidewalk to make sure they were all safe. What an amazing community we have around us - thank you so much to everyone for all your help!
We had a really fun afternoon that started with Tech and I demo-riding our freestyle before getting the kids on board and starting the races! I was tasked as race started, finisher and rosette distributor which was fun! The kids were amazing! There were a many different disabilities in the mix, but the horses coped amazingly and the riders all left with big smiles on their faces and rosettes for their efforts, and we presented a trophy to the rider with the biggest smile and best attitude too :)
It was a tiring day for all involved, but was so nice to be able to give something back and give the kids a really fun afternoon with our amazing horses. So proud of them all!
